Twisting and shifting old tales can often be a fun starting point for a painting. This piece is no exception. I'm sure you have heard of the old German tale of storks delivering babies to humans. I grew fond of the idea that perhaps these birds would also be responsible for the infant during it's complete gestation before delivering them to their human parents. This idea lead me to fashion a steampunk aquarium/capsule that was attached to a helmet which became reminiscent of a kind of bastardized falcons hood. I'm quite sure that each stork would be fiercely protective of the soul that it carried. It would be best not to get in their way.
