The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow
After having the honor of being the official selection of over 50 International Film Festivals and being a Genie Nominee right here in our home and native land… I’m happy to release this short to everyone with an internet connection…
Our film centers on an unusual photograph dating back to the 1930s. An investigation of its particulars reveals a tapestry of secrets hidden in the details, and a tale of kidnapping and murder captured in a haunting moment.

“Freeze”
This is the most work intensive music video that I’ve directed to date. The entire piece took about 8 months of production. The idea came to me after drinking a glass of red wine and spending my evening spying over an algae eater (plecostomus) that I had just purchased for my aquarium. I was fascinated by his prehistoric features, and imagined what he might look like if he were the size of a football field. This Sci-Fi short is based on a species of humanoid vultures that sucks their own planet dry as the mine and capture electric fish for energy…

This Hollow World
My first experience being behind the camera… and…gulp… in front of. The production of this video was fast and furious. I’ve been with the band “Johnny Hollow” for about a decade now, and we had been waiting to do a music video for quite sometime, but the funding and the timing had never lined up. One day I received a call from our record label who announced that we had a 3 week window to start and finish a music video. Take it or leave it. And so, we had to start immediately. The thought of creating a music video within such a short span of time was both frightening and invigorating… my favorite part of this piece is at 3:18…

Feel It
I really like this song. And I have a lot of respect for the musicians involved with this track, namely David Ogilvie, Anthony Valcic and Trent Reznor. The creation of this music video was kind of …erm… ass backwards! That is to say, that the story was completely reworked and recrafted AFTER we had the footage in our hands. This is, quite honestly, unheard of and would have given the record label heart palpitations had they known what we were up to. We took the best pieces, and began to forge a new storyline by connecting the edited footage with brand new animated vignettes. It was worth the gamble in the end, since the video was up for 3 MMVA nominations. (Record labels love music award nominations).

Pretty Life
This was Jakalope’s first music video. Dave Ogilvie’s wife played the part of the wicked step mother… and she played it perfectly. Sometimes it’s shocking how much a person can embody the spirit of a certain archetype once you put them into make up and wardrobe. I have to say, had a known the camera had loved her as much as it did, I would have made sure she would have had a much more substantive place in this music video.

My Pet Skeleton Montage
An assortment of clips from various music videos, animations and projections that I’ve directed over the years. The footage is edited to the sonic backdrop of Johnny Hollow… the “Dark Thing” remix.
